“CoolSculpting, is it too good to be true?”

CoolSculptingHave you heard the buzz around CoolSculpting? Does it sound too good to be true? It most definitely is not. The results are real, permanent and it is the fastest growing treatment that we offer.

So, what exactly is CoolSculpting?
  • It is the #1 non-invasive permanent fat reduction procedure worldwide.
  • It is FDA cleared.
  • With over 5 million CoolSculpting treatments performed and 5,500 studies, it is proven to be a safe and effective treatment for non-surgical fat reduction.
  • Treated patients are highly satisfied with the results…

How does it work?

The device precisely targets the treatment area by suctioning the fat under the skin and lowering the temperature to -11C or 12.2F. The applicator remains on the area for 35 to 45 minutes, which causes the fat cells to freeze. Although some patients see results within the first month, maximum results are noticed at 3 months. On average 20% of the targeted fat cells will be PERMANENTLY destroyed and eliminated from your body through natural processes, such as sweat and urine…

Won’t the fat cells grow back?

No, in our adolescents, our genetic makeup determines our number of fat cells. Think of fat cells like a sponge or balloon,  as we gain weight, our fat cells get bigger, as we lose weight, our fat cells get smaller. Once the CoolSculpting treatment destroys these fat cells, they are eliminated for good.

How did they figure CoolSculpting out?

Scientists at Harvard University noticed that children who were sucking on popsicles had loss of fat in their cheek causing dimples, which appeared to be caused by freezing. Furthermore, scientists also noticed a similar effect on women who rode horseback in the winter. In particular, the frozen saddles in the mornings caused these womens’ inner thighs to have reduced fat. Through extensive research, scientists discovered that fat freezes at -11C and causes a percentage of these fat cells to be permanently destroyed. Through continued research and refinement, CoolSculpting was invented and approved by the FDA in 2009.

Who should not have this treatment?

I do not recommend this treatment for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding, as the studies did not include this patient population, so it is not known if it’s safe during that time. Many women get treatment in between children or once they are done having kids, that is a personal decision to decide when the time is right for you…  Some of my patients have treatment in between children and some wait until after and then treat themselves to a mini “mommy makeover”.

The treatment is non-invasive, there is no surgery, incisions, anesthesia, risk of infection or any downtime. Most of our patients sleep, watch movies, work or listen to music during the treatment and then get up and go back into their normal daily lives. The treated areas can feel a little numb and sensitive after treatment, but there are no limitations after treatment.

While practicing with a leading dermatologist in Manhattan, I had the opportunity to work with the first generation CoolSculpting machine eight years ago and provide critical feedback to the developer. It is wonderful to see the improvements in efficacy that have been made, which translate to better results for my patients and myself. Yes, I have treated myself with CoolSculpting and love it!

So many of us are great candidates for CoolSculpting because there are multiple areas we can treat, including the abdomen, inner and outer thighs, submental area (double chin, sculpt your jawline), bra fat, flanks (“love handles”) and the newest applicator for arm fat.

I could talk about CoolSculpting all day because I truly love it and as mentioned, have had the treatment myself so I can speak from a practitioner’s and patient’s point of view.

My consultations are always complimentary and it is important to have a full assessment to see if you are a candidate.

Make an appointment and come in to see if you are a candidate for CoolSculpting!
